Platforms

In line with our modular strategy, Volkswagen designed and implemented uniform, scalable platforms as the basis for our products.

The two Volkswagen ICE platforms “Modulare Längsbaukasten” (MLB) and the “Modularer Querbaukasten” (MQB), have redefined industry benchmarks in terms of modularization and standardization.

MQB/MLB

Upon entering the age of e-mobility, Volkswagen has succesfully applied this winning formula to our portfolio of electric vehicles: The resulting „Modularer E-Antriebs-Baukasten“ (MEB) forms the basis for the majority of our electric models.

MEB

For premium brands in larger segments, the same approach and class leading know-how is being applied to the „Premium Platform Electric“ (PPE). Focusing on the demanding requirements of Premium customers, the latest technology is implemented in an innovative and high performance package

"Modularer E-Antriebsbaukasten" (MEB)

Since 2020, the MEB forms the basis for all pure-battery vehicles within the Volkswagen brand and is featured in the award winning models such as the Volkswagen ID. family, Audi Q4 e-tron and CUPRA Born. It is the backbone of our electrification strategy. Click on the image for a short video.

As a purely electric platform, built around the battery, the MEB offers the following key advantages in comparison to ICE based or multi-powertrain platforms:

The MEB allows for various wheelbases and overhangs, battery capacities, electric motor specifications and driveline layouts.

Flexibility & Scalability

Conventional elements such as the combustion engine and center tunnel have been eliminated, thereby offering a significantly larger interior space. The underfloor battery results in a higher seating position.

Comfort & Space

The underfloor battery system of the MEB endows all vehicles with a low center of gravity therefore leading to superior driving dynamics.

Sportiness & Dynamic

Vehicles based on our MEB are already being used all around the globe and are driven millions of kilometers every single day

Reliability & Security

Premium Platform Electric (PPE)

The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) offers the latest high performance  physical and electrical architecture to satisfy the demanding requirements of premium and luxury segment customers.

It is characterized by a high-tech and highly scalable architecture that enables both low- and high-floor vehicles and high-end features such as air-suspension, all wheel steering and electric charging power up to 270 kW.  Click on the image for a short video.

MQB and MLB

With the two ICE platforms “Modulare Längsbaukasten” (MLB) and the “Modularer Querbaukasten” (MQB), Volkswagen has redefined industry benchmarks in terms of modularization and standardization. For almost ten years, the two platforms have underpinned the Volkswagen Group portfolio and reached millions of satisfied customers per year.

Through the resulting scale economies, Volkswagen is able to pass on the realized cost advantages to our platform customers.

eKit
